Paulie Malignaggi doesn't have to worry about his girlfriend this time

Paulie Malignaggi avoided the sideshow he experienced during his June fight with Adrien Broner in the lead up to his fight on Saturday against Zab Judah in Brooklyn.

Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KOs) and Judah (42-8, 29 KOs) are both from Brooklyn and have a lot of respect for each other. There was little trash talked exchanged between them ahead of their big fight. That’s a huge contrast to what happened in June.

You may recall that Broner brought Malignaggi’s ex-girlfriend Jessica Corazon to press conferences ahead of their fight and even put her on the phone for reporters. He was claiming that he stole Corazon from Malignaggi.

Then, after winning a split decision, Broner boasted on live TV that he took Malignaggi’s belt and his girl. Malignaggi hilariously disputed the claim by saying Corazon was nothing more than his “sidepiece.” The back-and-forth exchange caught many people off guard:

Was Corazon just a prop in the whole thing used by Broner to drum up publicity for his fight? Or was he really with Corazon? It’s hard to say but, about a month later, Corazon seemed to have a new boyfriend. She also seemed to indicate she was paid to do what she did.

Paulie keeps his business on lock pretty well and has avoided these distractions since then. He really hasn’t even been involved with Corazon since, at least as far as we can tell. He later claimed that she made up a bunch of stories, that she became stalkerish, faked a pregnancey and became crazy.

It’s hard to know what the truth was in their situation, but it’s good to know that Paulie is no longer involved with her. However, we will admit that he’s missing out on a lot.
