Ryan Newman says he will return to racing when NASCAR resumes
A little over two months after his frightening crash at the Daytona 500, Ryan Newman said he’ll be ready to race again when NASCAR resumes.
Newman suffered a brain bruise on the last lap at Daytona, but his injuries were deemed non life-threatening. He now says he is healthy and plans to race again.
“I’m excited to be healthy and at some point to get back in the race car when the world starts turning again and thankful for the people and support that I’ve gotten, friends and family and fans, you name it, that have prayed for me and given me this multitude of miracles that has given me this opportunity to get back in the seat at some point,” Newman said, via Dustin Long of NBC Sports.
Newman said the plan was to race whenever racing returns, though he has yet to be cleared by NASCAR.
Newman said pretty quickly that he had every intention of returning to racing as soon as he was able. He’s clearly made huge progress health-wise, and seems to be on track for a pretty quick return.
