12-year-old arrested in armed robbery of Jim Boeheim’s wife

Jim Boeheim with wife Juli

Juli Boeheim, the wife of Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim, was robbed at gunpoint earlier in the week, and police have arrested the person who was allegedly responsible. That person is a child.

Syracuse Police announced this week that they have arrested a 12-year-old boy and charged him with robbery, grand larceny and criminal possession of a weapon. The boy allegedly pointed an air gun at Boeheim while she was sitting in her car in the parking lot of a shopping center in New York. The boy then reached into the vehicle to grab Boeheim’s purse. He later fled in a stolen car with three other men, according to TMZ.

Fortunately, Boeheim was unharmed. Jim told Brent Axe on ESPN Radio on Wednesday that Juli was “definitely shook up.”

“I mean, this isn’t television. It’s not movies. It’s real life,” Jim Boeheim said. “Somebody puts a gun in your face. She’s handling it well, better than I probably would or most people, I think. But it’s not easy. She’s a little shook but I think she’s doing much better than could be expected.”

Juli attended both of Syracuse’s ACC Tournament games on Wednesday and Thursday. She appeared very emotional in the stands after the Orange were eliminated with a loss to Duke.
