Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg lost his cool with a fan following his team’s upset loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Tuesday night.
The Hawkeyes notched a surprise 57-52 victory over the Cornhuskers at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa on Tuesday night. The victory prompted Iowa students to storm the court in celebration while Nebraska players and coaches were still trying to get to the locker room.
One celebrating Iowa fan stuck his phone in Hoiberg’s face, prompting the frustrated coach to slap at it.

A view purportedly from the phone in question showed a close look at Hoiberg’s reaction.

Hoiberg was trying to get through the handshake line with Iowa’s coaches and was undoubtedly frustrated with his team’s loss. Having a student stick a phone in his face and taunt him was never likely to get a positive reaction, though the Nebraska coach would still be expected to maintain his temper in such a spot. He may face discipline from the Big Ten as a result.
This is another reason many coaches and administrators would like to see court storming eliminated from college basketball. Not only is it often dangerous, but it can put people in situations like this that might end poorly.
