
The Michigan State Spartans spent the first half of their second round game being tormented by Syracuse’s 2-3 zone, but a bit of good fortune ensured they went into the locker room with the lead.
The Spartans were shooting under 30 percent for the half, locked in a massive struggle against the Orange’s stingy defense. After guard Matt McQuaid’s attempt at a buzzer-beater was blocked, it looked like the two teams would head into the locker room tied at 22 — at least until McQuaid caught his own blocked shot and heaved up a prayer.
