Purdue Boilermakers senior center Oscar Cluff is ready for the 2026 NCAA Tournament, but he still has some catching up to do on his team’s first-round opponent, the Queens University Royals.
After helping Purdue beat the Michigan Wolverines in the Big Ten tournament championship game on Sunday at the United Center in Chicago, Ill., Cluff was asked by Angela Moryan of WISH-TV News if he had any idea about the Royals.
His answer may have just given Queens University some bulletin material.
“It’s in New York somewhere,” a clueless Cluff answered before getting informed by Moryan that the Royals are based in Charlotte.

“What do you know about Queens?” … “It’s in New York somewhere.” … “It’s in Charlotte. That’s North Carolina.”

I had this hilarious exchange with #Purdue’s Oscar Cluff talking about their first round opponent Queens.
No matter where the Royals are from, the Boilers will be… pic.twitter.com/uMnVIgLQEi
To be fair to Cluff, the Royals are still a relatively new NCAA Division I program. It’s been less than a year since Queens University became an active NCAA Division I member, though the program’s transition to its current status started in 2022.
Queens University earned an automatic bid to the 2026 March Madness after winning the Atlantic Sun Tournament.
The No. 2-seed Purdue is the heavy favorite against Queens, but the No. 15 Royals can take inspiration from a 2023 NCAA Tournament giant slayer.
That year, the No. 1-seed Purdue was taken down in the first round by the 16th-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in a stunning upset that has been talked about every March since.
