Bettor risked more than $1,500 to win about $1 on Alabama
Alabama had what we would call a cupcake game against Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday, and the end result was quite predictable. Nick Saban’s team may have left some gamblers disappointed, but one brazen bettor was more than happy to earn a free buck.
At 49-point favorites over the Rajin’ Cajuns, Alabama failed to cover with a 56-14 victory. However, ESPN’s David Purdum reports that one bettor cashed a slip by placing a $1,579.65 bet on the money line, meaning the Tide simply had to win straight up. Since the odds of Alabama winning the game outright were about -99,000, the bettor went home with a whopping $1.60.
While it would have been arguably the biggest upset in sports history if Alabama lost, most people simply feel odds like that aren’t worth it. No matter how much of a lock something is, risking that much money to win so little is something gamblers are rarely open to.
Typically when we share crazy sports wagers with you, they have something to do with a bettor risking a very small amount and taking home a huge payout. While the Alabama bet was nothing like that, in many ways it was just as wild.
