Bill Belichick does not sound too concerned by North Carolina’s latest letdown.

North Carolina got embarrassed by Clemson on Saturday in front of a sparse crowd at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Tar Heels had one of the most disastrous first quarters in college football history.

The Tigers tallied four (!!) touchdowns in the opening period to take a 28-3 lead in under 15 minutes of game action. With the contest’s result wrapped up early, Clemson cruised to a 38-10 victory.

Despite the beatdown his team took, Belichick believed that his team still needed to stick to the same game plan.

“The main thing we need to do is to keep doing what we’re doing but do them better,” Belichick told reporters, via ESPN’s David Hale. “Fundamentally, we’re not doing the wrong things, we’re just not doing them well enough.”

Belichick added that North Carolina committed mental mistakes at “two or three critical times” as the team suffered from a “lack of concentration.”

Belichick may be the greatest coach in NFL history, but it’s hard to agree that his team was “not doing the wrong things” during a game they lost before the end of the first quarter.

North Carolina’s fan support had already been waning before the contest. The team’s approval rating took a major hit during the game, as Tar Heels fans made a beeline for the exits well before the end of the game.

The defeat dropped the Tar Heels to 2-3 for the season. But based on Belichick’s embarrassing college coaching debut against TCU over a month ago, things could have gone a lot worse for North Carolina.
