When Kansas State switched quarterbacks late in the third quarter of their loss to West Virginia last weekend, the move came as a shock to all but two people, according to a report.
The Wichita Eagle’s Kellis Robinett reported on Tuesday that Wildcats head coach Bill Snyder told Alex Delton to play quarterback and replace Skylar Thompson without telling anyone else. Kansas State was trailing West Virginia 35-3 at the time and Delton led the team on a field goal drive. His next drive resulted in a field goal attempt that was missed, and his final drive was a turnover on downs.
According to Robinett, the quarterback switch is something that may have been brewing. Robinett says Snyder never was really sold on Thompson as the team’s quarterback, but he had deferred to other members on his staff who thought Thompson was the best option. With the team doing very little against the Mountaineers, Snyder decided it was time to make a change. His frustration following the game was pretty evident.

Delton reportedly has been getting most of the first-team reps at practice this week and seems in line to start against Texas on Saturday, though both players are expected to see action.
Kansas State is 2-2 and has been blown out by both ranked opponents they’ve faced.
