
In news that will have terrified Clemson football fans, quarterback Deshaun Watson left the team’s game against Syracuse late in the first half with a shoulder injury.

Clemson called Watson’s injury a bruised shoulder, and he did not start the second half. The team did, however, say he could play if necessary.

The Tigers were ahead 30-0 at halftime, so there was no real incentive to get him back into the game and risk something else happening.
Given how good Watson is, it’ll come as a relief that the injury doesn’t sound serious and he’s being held out only as a precaution. Clemson sits at No. 2 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, and their destiny is in their own hands.
