There have been questions about how much the recent scandal at Ohio State will impact recruiting, but one of the best players in the country says he is sticking with the Buckeyes.
Five-star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who announced back in April that he has committed to Ohio State, sent a tweet last month telling people to stop asking him if he was backing out of his commitment. The Texas prospect then spoke with TMZ this week and reaffirmed that he still feels “comfortable” with the situation in Columbus.
“It was hard to hear, you know?” Wilson said of the domestic violence allegations against Zach Smith, who was the coach who recruited him. “I wanted to let it all play out and now that it’s all played out and I’m going to have my coach back, I feel comfortable with everything.”
Wilson had 96 receptions for 1,764 yards and a whopping 26 touchdowns as a junior last season. Composite rankings from 247Sports have him as the No. 12 overall player and No. 2 wide receiver in the country. If you remember, he even took a swipe at Texas after choosing the Buckeyes.
Urban Meyer has been suspended for the first three games of the 2018 season for the way he handled the Smith situation, but Wilson says he would still be fully committed to Ohio State even if Meyer were fired.
