Some troubling details are emerging this week about Georgia WR Nitro Tuggle’s recent arrest.
Mark Schlabach of ESPN reported Wednesday that Tuggle, who was arrested March 19 on speeding and reckless driving charges, was driving 107 mph before he was stopped and taken in custody. Citing an incident report by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Schlabach shares that Tuggle was going 42 mph above the posted 65 mph speed limit. Tuttle’s girlfriend was also in the car at the time of the incident.
“I instructed Tuggle to exit the vehicle, at which point he nearly exited without placing the vehicle in park,” the arresting officer said in the incident report. “Due to his reckless disregard for the safety of others, including himself, his passenger, other motorists, and myself, by operating the vehicle at a speed 42 mph over the limit and exceeding triple-digit speeds, I placed him under arrest.”

Tuggle, a 19-year-old sophomore from Goshen, Ind., was arrested in the early morning hours of March 19 on Georgia State Route 10 Loop outside Athens, Ga. He ended up posting a small bond and was released shortly after 3 AM that morning but is now facing speeding and reckless driving charges (which are both misdemeanors).
On March 20, the day after his arrest, Tuggle was suspended indefinitely by Georgia coach Kirby Smart. Tuggle, who caught three passes for 34 yards as a freshman last season, joins his Bulldogs teammate Marques Easley, a freshman offensive lineman, on the suspended list. Easley was arrested March 17 in Oconee County, Ga. after wrecking his Dodge Charger by driving it into power distribution box in an apartment complex.
Both Tuggle and Easley continue on a troubling trend for the Georgia football team in recent years. Since the start of 2023, more than two dozen members of the program have been arrested, many for speeding and other driving-related charges.
