There are countless reasons you could give for why Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is the overwhelming favorite to win the Heisman Trophy this season, but you really need look no further than his drive chart.
Kirk Herbstreit shared a photo of a chart that shows all the drives Tagovailoa has led this season, and to say it is remarkable would be an understatement. Anything highlighted in yellow or blue represents a drive that ended in points for the Crimson Tide.
Flew to @AlabamaFTBL today to sit down with Tu’a. What an incredible young man. Humble to a fault.
Here’s his drive chart from this season so far.
Yellow represents TD’s
Blue = FG’s
White..drives without scores. Unprecedented!!! #VideoGameResults pic.twitter.com/0OHCAaImW4— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) October 25, 2018
Lets break that down a little further, shall we? Of 61 drives Tagovailoa has led this season, all but 20 have ended with a trip to the end zone. Five of those remaining 20 resulted in field goals, and only four ended in turnovers (one on downs).
Yeah, that’s pretty good.
We recently ranked the 10 best Heisman Trophy contenders, but it’s easy to see why nine of them are looking way up at No. 1. The presence of Tagovailoa has resulted in Nick Saban having one of his strongest teams since he began coaching Alabama, and it would be a major upset at this point if anyone stopped them from winning another title.
