Urban Meyer has already reached out to a Wisconsin commit

Urban Meyer Ohio State

Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen sent shockwaves across the college football world on Wednesday when he announced that he has taken the head coaching job at Oregon State. Urban Meyer didn’t take a whole lot of time to let the news sink in.

According to Adam Gorney of Rivals.com, Meyer and Ohio State kicked off the poaching almost immediately after Andersen’s move became official. They reportedly reached out to four-star tight end recruit Kyle Penniston, who is currently committed to Wisconsin.

And Meyer is in position to make a great recruiting pitch. In addition to bragging about how his Buckeyes are in the College Football Playoff despite losing two starting quarterbacks, Meyer can also point out that Andersen comes from his “coaching tree.”

Meyer led an undefeated Utah team to a BCS bid in 2004. Andersen was his defensive line coach that season, and the now-Oregon State coach has credited Meyer for showing him the ropes.

“I learned a lot from Coach Meyer in that year in a lot of different ways,” Andersen said last week, via USA Today. “I put that into a lot of my philosophies as a head football coach. It was a great experience, a great learning experience.”

As sleazy as it may seem, these are the reasons Meyer has success everywhere he goes. You have to think ahead and capitalize on opportunities.
