Former Miami Dolphins and New York Jets coach Adam Gase is returning to the NFL after a five-year hiatus.
Gase is set to join the Los Angeles Chargers as an assistant coach focusing on the passing game, according to multiple reports. It is the first job he has held in the league since the Jets fired him as head coach at the end of the 2020 season.

Gase was once a very respected offensive mind in the NFL. He was particularly well-respected for his work with Peyton Manning while the two were together with the Denver Broncos, though it has since been claimed that Manning had a lot more to do with that success than Gase did.
As an NFL head coach, Gase went 32-48. His last season with the Jets, which saw the team go 2-14, was a particular low point.
While Gase’s reputation is not what it once was, he still retains some clout if someone like Mike McDaniel wants him on their offensive staff. He will get the chance to work with Justin Herbert as the Chargers try to break through in the playoffs.
