The Las Vegas Raiders have a starting quarterback question for their upcoming Week 13 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but they may be getting an important option back at the perfect time.
Raiders coach Antonio Pierce confirmed Monday that Gardner Minshew will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken collarbone in Sunday’s loss. However, the Raiders plan to designate quarterback Aidan O’Connell for a return from injured reserve this week, and he has a chance of starting Friday.
O’Connell’s ability to play will be determined by doctors and medical staff, as well as whether he can grip and throw the ball effectively without any pain.

O’Connell suffered a broken thumb in Week 7 and has been sidelined since. He had gone 0-2 in two starts this year, though no Raiders quarterback has performed well at any point in 2024.
The only other real option on the Raiders’ roster is Desmond Ridder, who was only acquired after O’Connell suffered his injury. The clear preference for the Raiders would appear to be starting O’Connell, but it remains to be seen if his health allows for it.
