Andre Johnson needs to ‘go to an island or something’ during bye week

Andre-Johnson

Cary Williams questioned Andre Johnson’s intensity level after the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Houston Texans on Sunday. The Eagles corner said Johnson is “not the same” guy he used to be, and there is probably some truth to that. One thing’s for sure — the seven-time Pro Bowler doesn’t sound happy.

When asked on Monday about Williams’ remarks, Johnson offered “no comment.” He did, however, sound like someone who has grown tired of his current employer. Here’s the exchange Johnson had with reporters, courtesy of the Houston Chronicle’s Brian T. Smith:

“I’m trying to help the team win,” Johnson said. “But I only can do what I can do. I can’t control everything. I only can control what I can. That’s it. I can’t block. I can’t cover guys. I can’t throw the ball. All I can do is run routes and try to get open and catch the ball.”

Has Johnson been open and not been receiving the ball?

“I don’t know,” he said. “You watched the game.”

Johnson said he’s frustrated because the Texans are losing and he’s aware of his talent at his position.

“It is what it is,” Johnson said.

Does he see a light at the end of the tunnel?

“I don’t know,” Johnson said. “We’ll see.”

Will he address his situation with Texans coach Bill O’Brien?

“I don’t really think there’s much to talk about,” said Johnson, who added that a quarterback change is out of his control.

As for Williams questioning his effort and intensity Sunday?

“Maybe they see something I don’t see,” Johnson said.

The Texans head into their bye this week having lost four of their last five. Johnson was asked if he has plans for the week off.

“I just need to go to like an island or something,” he said. “Get far away from here.”

Remember, this is the same Johnson who had a dispute over a workout bonus this past offseason and reportedly told the Texans he wants out of town. Calling him unhappy might be an understatement at this point.
