Chicago Bears coach Ben Johnson took a clear shot at ESPN’s Troy Aikman on Tuesday for some of Aikman’s commentary during the Bears’ 25-24 win over the Washington Commanders on Monday.

Aikman drew criticism from viewers for what many felt was exceedingly negative commentary about the Bears, particularly quarterback Caleb Williams, during Monday’s game at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md. Aikman was critical of Williams throughout the broadcast, and many felt he suggested that any of Chicago’s problems during the game were because of Williams’ play.

Johnson certainly became aware of this Tuesday, and he took a not-so-subtle shot at Aikman during an appearance on ESPN 1000.

“It sounded like, from that game the other night, a few people weren’t particularly pleased with how we’re winning right now,” Johnson said. “I woke up this morning and my kids were watching the second half before school, so I heard some of the commentary.”

Johnson’s final comment left no doubt that he was referring to Aikman. In one clip that made the rounds on social media, many argued that Aikman was blaming Williams’ accuracy for a bad drop by wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus.

Johnson and the Bears are not going to make any apologies for their third consecutive win. Williams went 17/29 on Monday for 252 yards and a touchdown, but he certainly played no worse than Jayden Daniels and his team won the game.

Aikman is well-regarded by most fans, and sometimes his willingness to be critical is a good thing. Bears fans think this was a little much, and Johnson clearly does as well.
