Brock Osweiler benched by Texans for Tom Savage

Brock Osweiler

Brock Osweiler was finally benched by the Houston Texans.

After being unable to lead the Texans to any points on five possessions in the first half against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, the Texans made a change. They replaced Osweiler with Tom Savage midway through the second quarter.

Osweiler was 6 of 11 for 48 yards and two interceptions before being benched. His possessions had resulted in two picks and three punts.

Osweiler, who was signed to a four-year, $72 million deal in the offseason, entered the game with a 73.4 quarterback rating and 14 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Savage, a former 4th-round pick out of Pitt, is seeing his first action of the season. He played in limited spots in 2014, completing 10 of 19 passes for 127 yards.

The 7-6 Texans clearly were looking for a spark. They got it as Savage led Houston all the way down the field on his first possession.
