Report: Carson Wentz appears on track for Week 1
The Philadelphia Eagles’ quest to repeat as Super Bowl champions could be off to a good start.
Carson Wentz, who suffered a torn ACL in a win over the Rams on Dec. 10, was working in some team drills during minicamp. Though he has not been cleared for 11-on-11 work, he apparently looked good in 7-on-7 drills.
It’s to the point that The Monday Morning Quarterback’s Kalyn Kahler believes it’s “likely” he will be ready for Week 1. From Kahler:
Without knowing the specific details of his rehab timeline, it’s impossible to predict if playing on Sept. 6 is medically possible, but Wentz’s performance at minicamp and his Type-A work ethic make it seem likely that he will be ready.
The big hurdle in Wentz’s recovery has to do with him being cleared for contact. That will be the final step.
The 25-year-old blossomed into an MVP candidate in his second year in the league. He had 33 touchdown passes and just seven interceptions before suffering his knee injury. Fortunately the Eagles have a great backup option in Nick Foles in case Wentz isn’t ready for the start of the season on Sept. 6 against the Atlanta Falcons. Wentz has also expressed optimism about being ready for Week 1.
