Dak Prescott says he does not pay attention to ‘noise’ about possible benching

Dak Prescott

In one week, Dak Prescott went from the toast of the NFL to the subject of a lot of criticism and even talk of being benched. Such is life as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, and the rookie is almost used to it at this point.

Prescott said Wednesday that he tunes out all the outside noise and has ever since he was drafted.

“The noise didn’t just start,” Prescott said, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “It’s the Dallas Cowboys, there’s been noise since the time I’ve been drafted.

“Everybody in this locker room doesn’t pay attention to [the outside noise]. Y’all get paid to do that, we don’t.”

So is Prescott sweating his job status at all, with Tony Romo lurking behind him on the depth chart?

“What am I looking over my shoulder for?” Prescott said. “I really just don’t pay attention to [the noise].”

It helps for Prescott that both coach Jason Garrett and owner Jerry Jones have made very clear that, at least presently, the rookie quarterback is in no danger of being benched. A few more bad games may change that, but just one will not.
