Dak Prescott will have a new weapon at his disposal this season after the Dallas Cowboys acquired George Pickens in a trade, and the star quarterback sounds excited about the move.

Prescott was asked about Pickens during a Wednesday morning appearance on 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas. He said the Cowboys had needed some help at the wide receiver position, and Prescott believes Pickens can provide it.

“You turn on the tape and you see a guy that can catch the football. You put the football anywhere in his vicinity, very strong hands, more than a 50/50 catcher.” Prescott said. “He thinks it’s his ball when it’s in the air. I’m excited for him.

“I know that we need some help at that position. I know CeeDee (Lamb) needs some help and I think when you have a guy like that — I heard George say it, it’s hard to double-team two guys. Then when you got other guys whether it be (Jake Ferguson), Jalen Tolbert, (Jonathan Mingo), guys who have had reps and know how to get open in the league. I think we’re putting together a nice group of weapons.”

Pickens should have infinite upside playing under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer. The former Georgia star flashed his playmaking ability in his three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he dealt with inconsistent quarterback play. If Prescott is healthy, the situation in Dallas should be far better for Pickens.

Of course, there are legitimate off-field concerns with Pickens. A recent report claimed Steelers players were “fed up” with him, which is not exactly a shock.

Pickens seemed to throw his team under the bus after their playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens earlier this year. He had issues with committing penalties, and he got into a fight with an opposing player on the final play of a game. As if all that weren’t enough, Pickens reportedly had a habit of being tardy.

If Pickens can keep his head on straight with the Cowboys, he should benefit from defenses focusing attention on Lamb. Prescott will just have to make sure he gets his new receiver the ball enough to keep him interested.
