Report: Derrius Guice has torn meniscus, likely out 6-8 weeks

Derrius Guice

Derrius Guice cannot seem to escape knee trouble, and the latest injury the Washington Redskins running back suffered could keep him out for as long as two months.

Guice, who missed his entire rookie season last year after tearing the ACL in his left knee, injured his right knee in Washington’s season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles last week. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Guice tore his meniscus and will likely undergo surgery, which would sideline him for 6-8 weeks.

Guice also suffered a knee injury while in college at LSU, so this has unfortunately become a recurring theme for the 22-year-old. If he does undergo surgery, the Redskins could opt to put him on injured reserve with a designation to return later in the year.

Now that Guice is expected to miss several games, it will be interesting to see how Washington proceeds with Adrian Peterson. The 34-year-old was a healthy scratch in Week 1 and appears to have fallen completely out of favor with head coach Jay Gruden, but the Redskins suddenly have a need for him the same way they did a year ago.
