DeShone Kizer officially named Browns starting QB
After saying for much of the offseason that DeShone Kizer is a long way away from being ready to start at the NFL level, the Cleveland Browns are handing the rookie the reins in Week 1.
Browns head coach Hue Jackson announced on Sunday that Kizer has won the team’s starting quarterback battle.

Kizer wasn’t all that great in Saturday’s 13-9 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, completing just 6-of-18 passes for 93 yards and an interception. However, he apparently did nothing to change Jackson’s mind about giving him the job over Brock Osweiler, who did not appear in the game.
The Browns seemingly gave Osweiler every opportunity to earn the starting job, but that may have just been their way of trying to increase the veteran’s trade value. It did not work. Kizer has looked like Cleveland’s best quarterback in camp, and Jackson must feel he gives the team the best chance to win now.
