Doug Baldwin apologizes for Super Bowl celebration, says it was aimed at Darrelle Revis

Doug Baldwin dump

Doug Baldwin apologized Monday for his Super Bowl touchdown celebration that earned him a penalty and fine, and he also revealed the fake defecation was aimed at Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Baldwin caught a 3-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter of Super Bowl XLIX to give the Seahawks a 24-14 lead over the Patriots and then squatted down and pretended to crap out a football (watch here). Cameras cut away from that, but the internet still got a hold of it.

“I do regret the fact that it cost my team 15 yards, and to the fans, ultimately I apologize to anybody I offended in any way,” Baldwin said during an interview with “The Barbershop” on 710 ESPN Seattle. “It wasn’t about that. I just think it was a competitive situation. So to all the 12s, all the fans, that’s not what it’s about. So I apologize to anyone if I offended you.”

Baldwin said he would take it back if he could. He also said the defecation was aimed at Revis, who is considered by many to be the top cornerback in the game. However, Baldwin is not revealing much about the details regarding the celebration. “That is between me and the guy it was directed at.”

Baldwin, who is easily offended and a big talker, said he wanted his chance to show the world what he could do against a guy like Revis.

“I spent a lot of time those two weeks prior to getting ready for that game just focused on my individual matchup with him and I put a lot into it, and in that moment, I guess you could say it was just kind of a built-up frustration I was letting out in that sequence, you know, between him and I,” Baldwin said Monday night. “Obviously there was competitive stuff going on in that game, and in that moment, I just let out what I felt personally.”

Well at least this solves one mystery. Many thought his dookie was directed at NFL writers like Peter King, but apparently that was not the case. I guess we should score one for Revis here? Or maybe score it No. 2?
