Report reveals extent of Trevor Lawrence’s shoulder injury
Trevor Lawrence suffered yet another injury during the Jacksonville Jaguars’ loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, but he may be able to play through it like the rest of them.
Lawrence hurt his right shoulder when he landed on it hard on a scramble play in the fourth quarter. He finished the drive but was later ruled out. The Jaguars were trailing 30-6 at the time, so it was unclear if Lawrence would have been able to keep playing had the game been closer.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported on Monday that Lawrence’s shoulder injury is not considered to be serious. The quarterback will undergo an MRI to determine the full extent, but he might be able to play in Week 17.
“He has an MRI today. My understanding is it’s not considered to be a major injury,” Rapoport said. “The fact that he talked to reporters after the game and didn’t have his arm in a sling — it didn’t look like a major injury. He has battled through everything, so do not be surprised if that is the case again.”
Lawrence has never missed a game in his NFL career. He had concussion symptoms after last week’s game but was able to clear protocol in time for Sunday. Earlier this month, Lawrence suffered an ankle injury that initially looked serious. He has been playing through that, so it would not be a surprise if he does the same with the shoulder injury.
The good news for the Jaguars is that the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts also lost on Sunday, so the three teams remain in a tie atop the AFC South. Even if Lawrence plays next week against the Carolina Panthers, he almost certainly will not be 100% healthy.
