The New York Giants are not just benching quarterback Daniel Jones. They are essentially putting him out of sight and out of mind for the remainder of the season.
Jones was working as the Giants’ No. 4 quarterback during the open portion of Wednesday’s practice, according to reporters. Not only was Jones demoted behind Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock, but he had fallen behind Tim Boyle, who had just joined the Giants’ practice squad.

Coach Brian Daboll admitted that Boyle, not Jones, may wind up being the emergency third quarterback this week as well.
#Giants HC Brian Daboll said they haven’t decided whether Daniel Jones or Tim Boyle (signed to the practice squad on Tuesday) will be QB3 this week.
This means there’s a chance Daniel Jones could be demoted to QB4.

If it was not clear already, the Giants do not want Jones seeing the field again. They have a big financial reason for that, and whether they admit it or not, that is likely a huge factor in Jones getting such a hefty demotion.
Jones has completed 63.3% of his passes this season for 2,070 yards, 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. If Jones has made his last start for the Giants, he will finish with a record of 22-36-1 with the team.
