Former No. 1 pick expected to draw trade interest ahead of deadline
Former No. 1 overall draft pick Jadeveon Clowney is expected to draw trade interest ahead of the November 5 deadline.
Clowney has missed the Carolina Panthers’ Weeks 6 and 7 games due to a shoulder injury he sustained in the team’s Week 5 loss at the Bears. Despite his limited availability in recent weeks, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on Saturday that Clowney is expected to draw trade interest.
Clowney is on a two-year, $20 million contract with Carolina. He signed with them in March and was coming off a season where he had 9.5 sacks for the Baltimore Ravens.
Clowney, who was taken No. 1 overall by the Houston Texans in 2014, has 12 tackles this season and one sack. Carolina is 1-6, so it would make sense for them to try trading a player who might fetch a return, or to at least get his contract off their books.
