Jaxson Dart’s dad is clearly not a big fan of former New York Giants quarterback Danny Kanell.
Kanell appeared on CBS Sports HQ on Sunday and shared his stance on Dart. The Florida State alum stated that he has not seen enough from Dart to dub him the team’s quarterback of the future.
“I don’t know if Jaxson Dart is the long-term answer for the Giants,” Kanell said. “When I think of a first-round draft pick, I think of somebody that you should picture for 10 to 12 years is going to be your guy.
Kanell added that he hasn’t seen development from Dart as a passer, with the Giants remaining heavily reliant on Jaxson’s running ability. Kanell said he would need Dart to “take that next step as a passer” before crowning him New York’s next franchise QB.
Dart’s father, Brandon, had a succinct response to Kanell’s criticism.
“Bro, Eat a Fat One!” Brandon Dart responded, via a post on X.

It’s tough to argue with Mr. Dart’s point there. While nobody can fault Brandon Dart for sticking up for his son, Kanell’s criticism does come with some truth to it.
Jaxson Dart has been inconsistent with his passing ability in his first season and has relied too heavily on his legs at times. Look no further than the absurd stat line Dart had during the first half of the Giants’ Week 16 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Dart had more sacks (3) than passing yards (2) at halftime of the contest.
However, the Giants rookie still has a lot of time to prove Kanell and the rest of his critics wrong. Only time will tell who ultimately ends up having to “eat a fat one.”
