Jay Ajayi tells teams he is recovered from ACL surgery, ready to play

Jay Ajayi

We are nearly a month into the NFL season, but one player who could make a major impact remains on the free agent market. That would be Jay Ajayi, and the veteran running back says he is ready to play.

Ajayi has informed all 32 NFL teams that he has fully recovered from ACL surgery and is ready for game action, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that several teams could have interest in him.

Free agent RB Jay Ajayi has informed all 32 teams that he is ready for game action and fully recovered from ACL surgery, source said. His market could heat up quickly.

Ajayi played in just four games for the Philadelphia Eagles last year before tearing his ACL, which means it has been almost a full year since he suffered the injury. He’s still just 26 and has averaged an impressive 4.5 yards per carry for his career, so it would not be a surprise if multiple teams wanted to sign him.

The Green Bay Packers are one team that is a bit thin at the running back position, as Jamaal Williams was stretchered off the field following a frightening injury on Thursday night. There are others that are also banged up at the running back position, so Ajayi could find work quickly.
