Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden isn’t offering any hints on Kirk Cousins’s murky future.
Cousins, who will play 2017 on the franchise tag for the second straight season, does not appear to be on the verge of a long-term deal, and Gruden wasn’t offering any hints on Monday.
“My approach, really: I’m not gonna be concerned about it,” Gruden said of Cousins’s situation, via Liz Clarke of the Washington Post. “I know he’s gonna be here this season, and that’s all I care about.
“Whatever happens, happens with him and his agent and our organization. He has got two good years under his belt in our system, and I think it’s gonna be very good for him. You’re gonna see major growth from him again.”
The two sides remain apart on extension talks, and for that reason, it’s interesting that Gruden wouldn’t even offer a cursory quote about Cousins’s future beyond 2017. He may well hit the market next offseason.
