Cleveland Browns defensive back Jermaine Whitehead made headlines on Sunday when he had his Twitter account suspended for inappropriate activity, and the team is now moving on from him.
The Browns announced on Monday that they have waived Whitehead. The decision came less than 24 hours after they called his social media activity “totally unacceptable” in a statement.
Whitehead had his effort questioned in Cleveland’s 25-19 loss to the Denver Broncos, and he went ballistic when he was criticized on social media. He replied to a bunch of people and challenged many of them to fights end even threatened to kill one. When his Twitter account was suspended, Whitehead moved over to Instagram and continued going after haters. One predicted that he would be unemployed on Monday.
Since Whitehead is only in his third NFL season, he will have to clear waivers in order to become a free agent. It would not be a surprise if he goes unclaimed, as the social media tirade on Sunday was not the first time he has made headlines for the wrong reason. The former Auburn star was also cited two years ago for speeding on the way to Green Bay Packers practice and was ejected from a game last season for slapping an opponent.
