Jimmy Garoppolo will reportedly be inactive barring ‘unexpected change’
There are several conflicting reports about whether New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be active for Thursday night’s game against the Houston Texans, but one person who is close to the team says he will not be.
Shortly after a report claimed Garoppolo will be active but serve as the backup to rookie Jacoby Brissett, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported that Jimmy G. is not expected to be in uniform unless something changes leading up to the game.
Garoppolo is listed as doubtful after he suffered a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder during New England’s win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. You can see a video of the hard hit he took here.
There is some belief that the Patriots would be putting Garoppolo in a bad position if he is active but does not start. Critics would argue that the 24-year-old should be able to play through pain if he is healthy enough to suit up. If Garoppolo is unable to throw effectively, the Patriots would be better off declaring him inactive.
