John Elway: Colin Kaepernick trade talks ‘dormant,’ but offer still stands

Colin Kaepernick hat backwards

John Elway called the Denver Broncos’ trade talks for Colin Kaepernick “dormant,” but said that the offer was still on the table if either side wants to revisit it.

“It’s dormant,” Elway said of the proposed deal, via Darin Gantt of ProFootballTalk. “He’s been working out [with San Francisco] from what I understand so that’s all I can really say.”

Elway said there was a willingness to revisit trade talks if circumstances changed.

“It’s never been [dismissed]. Everything is right there,” Elway said. “So that’s kind of where it is.”

Elway then clarified that the previous offer still stood: “It’s there.”

Denver had the parameters of a deal for Kaepernick, but with the quarterback unwilling to give up salary and the Broncos and 49ers unable to agree on paying a portion of his contract, things fell apart. If they’re gonna get this done, they have about a week before the NFL Draft. They’re still looking elsewhere for a quarterback, and they have one guy who’s pretty confident about winning the job on the roster already.
