Johnny Manziel has first practice with Memphis Express
It has been less than three weeks since Johnny Manziel was released by the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes after the league ruled him ineligible to keep playing, and the former Heisman Trophy winner has already gotten back to work.
On Monday, Manziel took the practice field for the first time with the Memphis Express. The AAF team tweeted out a photo of Manziel to let fans know their latest addition is already getting up to speed.

Depending on what type of shape he’s in, Manziel could have an opportunity for playing time right away with Memphis. The Express are 1-5 on the year and already on their third quarterback, as initial starter Christian Hackenberg struggled and Zach Mettenberger hurt his ankle last week.
At the very least, Manziel should attract some fan attention to the AAF. It’s unclear what he did to violate the terms of his CFL contract, but it apparently wasn’t serious enough to scare the AAF away. The former first-round pick could be making his debut sooner rather than later.
