Report: Johnny Manziel likely to be suspended by NFL
Johnny Manziel is likely to be suspended by the NFL regardless of the way his case in front of a grand jury turns out.
Manziel was formally indicted on Tuesday and charged with one count of misdemeanor assault against his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley. The NFL is conducting its own personal investigation into the alleged incident, and Jason Cole of Bleacher Report is reporting that the league will speed things up now and likely suspend Manziel.
Cole notes that Manziel only “narrowly escaped” a suspension over the last incident he had with Crowley, which took place in October. Police were called to the scene of an argument between Manziel and Crowley on the side of the road. You can see some video footage from the incident here.
Manziel’s attorney says the quarterback will plead not guilty to the domestic violence charge and is confident his client will be cleared, but Manziel could still be suspended by the NFL even if he is not convicted.
Of course, Manziel recently made it seem like he is unsure if he even wants to play football in 2016 — not that there are many teams that would be interested. It’s not out of the question that his NFL career could be over.
