Former Florida State star Jordan Travis made a major announcement Wednesday about his NFL future.
Travis announced that he is retiring from the NFL due to the broken leg he suffered while playing for the Seminoles in 2023. The quarterback said he was advised by doctors to retire for medical reasons.
“On November 18th, 2023, my life & career took an unexpected turn,” Travis wrote in a statement. “I gave everything I had to the rehab process, but despite my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer & consultation with my doctors & medical team, I have been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.”

Travis was on his way to the College Football Playoff with Florida State in 2023 when he suffered the devastating injury in a game against North Alabama. The season-ending broken leg led to Florida State’s controversial exclusion from the CFP despite an undefeated record, and raised major doubts about his NFL Draft stock.
The New York Jets ultimately took a flier on Travis in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and he was hopeful that he would be able to recover from his injury and establish himself as a long-term option for the franchise. Unfortunately, that never happened, and last month his agent accused the Jets of mishandling Travis’ rehab.
Travis will always be remembered fondly for his time at Florida State, where he threw for 5,970 yards and 44 touchdowns over two seasons in 2022 and 2023. He also rushed for 14 touchdowns during that stretch, and finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting in 2023.
