Julio Jones says he will not play in preseason games

Julio Jones

Julio Jones chose to report to training camp last week despite wanting a contract extension, but the Atlanta Falcons star says he will not take part in any game action until the regular season begins.

While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Jones said he will not play in Atlanta’s first preseason game on Thursday or any of the three exhibition games after that.

Jones presented it as if it was his decision, but the Falcons probably support it. He has been dealing with a foot injury this offseason, and it has become common practice in recent years for star players to sit out preseason games. With Jones seeking a new contract, he probably wants to limit his injury exposure as much as possible.

We already know Jones expects big things from himself in 2019 after the insane goal he set for himself, and it seems highly unlikely that not playing in preseason games will impact his preparedness.
