Kliff Kingsbury may have left the Washington Commanders, but he has already found himself a new team.

Kingsbury is being hired by the Los Angeles Rams to join their coaching staff. His exact role was not made clear, but Kingsbury has an offensive background, and the Rams just lost their offensive coordinator. Mike LaFleur had been the Rams’ offensive coordinator under Sean McVay from 2023-2025, but he was just hired by the Arizona Cardinals to be their next head coach. Coincidentally, Kingsbury was the Cardinals’ head coach from 2019-2022 before being fired.

Kingsbury, 46, served as the Commanders’ offensive coordinator for two seasons from 2024-2025. He helped Washington rank 5th in yards and 7th in points in 2024, when the team went 12-5. This season, Washington’s offense was 22nd in both yards and points, and the team decided to move on from Kingsbury.

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn reportedly had some issues with Kingsbury, as the two were said to have disagreed over the offensive playcalling. Kingsbury runs a high-tempo, no-huddle offense that tends to have success. But there are some who feel that the style of offense has a shelf-life that other teams catch up with.

McVay coached directly against Kingsbury for four seasons when both were in the NFC West. Now, having lost his offensive coordinator to Arizona, McVay is turning to a former Cardinals head coach to help him beat his division opponent.
