Knife found buried outside OJ Simpson’s house years ago

OJ-Simpson

In an incredible story that sounds like it came straight out of a movie, a knife was reportedly found buried near the perimeter of O.J. Simpson’s home at some point over the past several years. Police are reportedly just now running tests on it.

The reason why it took so long is equally insane.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that a construction worker found the knife years ago. The exact date is unclear, but stories range from “several years ago” to 1998 when Simpson’s estate was demolished. The weapon is described as a folding buck knife.

The construction worker who discovered the knife reportedly took it out to the street, where he gave it to a Los Angeles Police Department officer. The officer, who worked in the traffic division, was off duty at the time and working security for a film that was being shot. Rather than turning it over to the LAPD, he allegedly took it home and kept it. Here’s how authorities finally got their hands on it:

In late January of this year, after the cop retired from the LAPD, he contacted a friend who worked in LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division (RHD). The cop told the friend about the knife and said he was getting it framed to put on his wall. He wanted his friend to get the DR (Departmental Record) number for the Nicole Brown Simpson/Ronald Goldman murder case, which he planned on engraving in the frame.

We’re told the friend was indignant, and told his superiors. The brass was outraged and demanded that the retired cop turn the knife over, which he did.

Our sources say the knife is currently being tested for hair and fingerprints. It will be moved to the Serology Unit next week, where it will be tested for DNA and other biological evidence.

One person told TMZ that officers who saw the knife think it possibly has blood residue on it, though it is quite rusted. While the investigation can continue for possible links outside of Simpson, the former NFL star has already been found not guilty and cannot be prosecuted again.

Simpson is currently in prison serving a 33-year sentence for kidnapping and armed robbery. He once supposedly had fears he might be killed while behind bars, though it later sounded like Simpson was doing just fine.
