Report: Kyle Shanahan did not leave because of Johnny Manziel

Kyle-Shanahan-Browns

With Kyle Shanahan officially cutting ties with the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, there has been speculation that the divorce had a lot to do with Johnny Manziel. That is not the case, according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Cabot reports that Shanahan did not leave because of Manziel and that he, in fact, “really liked” Johnny Football. The more likely reason for Shanahan’s departure is that he was not being given enough freedom.

As we shared with you earlier this week, some members of the Browns front office are said to have sent text messages to the sideline from their luxury box at one point during the season to question the team’s play-calling. If that report is true, you can understand why Shanahan would want to get out of town and leave Manziel-mania behind.

While it has already been widely assumed that Shanahan is likely to reunite with his father if Mike lands another head coaching job, Cabot says there will be other offensive coordinator positions available for him if certain head coaching hires are made.

Manziel may not have been the reason Shanahan asked out of Cleveland, but do you think he is going to miss reading stories like this all the time? Neither do we.
