San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan clearly has no issue with Nick Bosa’s recent displays of support for U.S. president-elect Donald Trump.

Bosa made it obvious leading up to the 2024 presidential election that he is a fan of Trump. That support led to some criticism, but Bosa doubled down during Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he and his teammates broke out a Trump-inspired sack celebration (video here).

During his weekly appearance on KNBR radio, Shanahan was asked about Bosa’s dance. The 49ers coach confirmed that the shimmy was a nod to Trump, but he said it was actually defensive end Leonard Floyd’s idea.

“That was the Trump dance. I don’t know what the Trump dance is, but it’s supposedly the Trump dance,” Shanahan said. “It was actually Leonard Floyd’s idea and if you watch him, when Bosa got the sack Leonard Floyd started doing it and then Bosa did it. Then (Sam Okuayinonu) did it and then Fred (Warner) came in at the end and did it. Leonard egged them all on and then they followed. It was pretty cool to see.”

Bosa stirred up a controversy two weeks ago when he crashed a postgame interview during NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” to proudly display a “Make America Great Again” hat. Bosa later received a fine for violating an NFL rule that prohibits players from “wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration” during league events.

Trump defeated Kamala Harris to win the election in a landslide last week. Shanahan’s reaction to Bosa’s dance made it pretty obvious that there are more than a few Trump supporters in the 49ers’ locker room.
