UPDATE: TMZ has deleted the story in which it was reported that Sanchez was released from the hospital.

Mark Sanchez has been released from the hospital after he was treated for multiple stab wounds.

Sanchez was hospitalized early Saturday morning after he was stabbed during an altercation with another man in Indianapolis. The former NFL quarterback was said to have suffered severe injuries.

TMZ reported on Sunday evening that Sanchez has been released from the hospital less than 48 hours after the stabbing incident.

Sanchez was arrested by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department while he was hospitalized. The 69-year-old man who stabbed Sanchez multiple times allegedly did so in self defense, as he says Sanchez had attacked him. The man told police he feared for his life.

An affidavit for probable cause states that Sanchez is accused of accosting a truck driver at a hotel loading dock. The truck driver said Sanchez continued to go after him to the point where the driver believed he was in danger. The man says he sprayed Sanchez in the face with pepper spray but that Sanchez continued to advance toward him.

Reports have suggested that Sanchez confronted a truck driver over where the man had parked. Detectives reviewed video footage of the incident before arresting Sanchez. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Sunday morning that Sanchez has formally been charged with three misdemeanors.

Sanchez was processed through jail on Sunday evening, according to TMZ. His attorney has paid his $300 bond.

Sanchez was a standout quarterback for USC before being drafted No. 5 overall by the New York Jets in 2009. Though he quarterbacked the Jets to the AFC Championship in each of his first two NFL seasons, he was ultimately unsuccessful with the organization, and was out of the NFL after the 2018 season.

Since retiring from the NFL, Sanchez has worked as a broadcaster, first for ESPN and currently for FOX. He was in Indianapolis to call Sunday’s game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders, but he was replaced by fellow former quarterback Brady Quinn for Week 5.
