Matt Hasselbeck was ‘on his death bed’ before Texans game
Reports of Matt Hasselbeck’s illness prior to Thursday’s game between the Colts and Texans apparently were not overstated.
Hasselbeck reportedly went to the hospital days before Thursday’s game because he was so ill. Hasselbeck said he got sick during Indy’s Week 4 game against the Jaguars. He shared after the win over the Texans that he had a bacterial infection that had him vomiting and spending time on the toilet.
Just how bad of shape was Hasselbeck in the day of the game against the Texans? Head coach Chuck Pagano said the veteran was “literally on his death bed.”
Pagano on Hasselbeck: "He was literally on his death bed … Grittiest performance I've seen in a long long time."

Hasselbeck also said after Thursday’s game he “really had nothing this morning,” via WTV’s Mike Berman.
Oh yeah – Hasselbeck was so ill he couldn’t even speak at meetings Wednesday night, so the injured Andrew Luck spoke for him.
Hasselbeck is 40 and prior to this season, he hadn’t started and won a game in the NFL since 2012. Yet here he is, taking over for Andrew Luck amid a disappointing 0-2 start, leading the Colts to consecutive victories in the division. And the latest came with him “on his deathbed.”
Yes, that is gritty, and that also explains why the veteran was in tears in his postgame interview.

Enjoy the victory, Matt. You sure earned it. And all the praise for the QB should not surprise you; just remember what Trent Dilfer had to say about him.
