FootballCam WardMaxx Crosby

Maxx Crosby had a very flattering comparison for Cam Ward

Maxx Crosby helped make life difficult for Cam Ward during the Las Vegas Raiders’ Week 6 win over the Tennessee Titans, but the star pass-rusher came away from the game impressed with what he saw from the rookie quarterback.

Crosby sacked Ward twice in the Raiders’ 20-10 win over the Titans on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. After one of the sacks, Crosby ruthlessly trolled Ward by busting out the No. 1 overall pick’s signature celebration. You can see the video here.

The sack dance should not be interpreted as a lack of respect from Crosby to Ward, however. On the latest episode of his “The Rush Podcast,” Crosby had high praise for Ward. He said the former Miami star showcased one trait that reminded Crosby of Patrick Mahomes.

“He’s a hell of a competitor and I love his attitude. … He’s one of those guys, like he reminds me of Patrick Mahomes in this way, he’ll hold the ball until the last possible second,” Crosby said. “You gotta respect that, because a lot of quarterbacks don’t want to get hit like that, and he doesn’t give a damn. He’s just trying to win.”

Ward was sacked six times against the Raiders. He turned the ball over three times with an interception and two lost fumbles. Ward’s NFL career has not gotten off to the start he had hoped, which is one of the reasons head coach Brian Callahan was fired on Monday.

Though Ward got a first-hand look at how difficult it is to play against an All-Pro pass-rusher like Crosby, he now knows he made a very positive impression on one of the NFL’s best players. That should count for something.
