Pat Shurmur has bizarre defense of Daniel Jones after another turnover-filled game

Daniel Jones

Daniel Jones coughed up another three turnovers in a defeat on Sunday, but his head coach managed a somewhat positive spin on the outing.

After the New York Giants rookie quarterback was intercepted three times in a 31-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Giants coach Pat Shurmur had something interesting to say about the 22-year-old’s performance. Shumur pointed out that all three of Jones’ turnovers were interceptions and not fumbles, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.

Jones has had some major problems with ball security this season, entering play on Sunday with a league-leading 14 fumbles lost. He did fumble again in the fourth quarter against Green Bay, but it was recovered by the offense, meaning Shurmur was technically right. Still, throwing his ninth, tenth, and eleventh interceptions of the year was obviously less than ideal for Jones.

The now 2-10 Giants were officially eliminated from playoff contention with the loss to the Packers, but Shurmur has stood up for Danny Dimes before, and he is not about to stop now.
