Philip Rivers has high praise for Patrick Mahomes after loss to Chiefs

Philip Rivers was extremely complimentary of Patrick Mahomes following the San Diego Chargers’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Mahomes showed in Week 1 why the Chiefs felt confident enough in him to trade Alex Smith to the Redskins during the offseason. The 22-year-old quarterback completed 15-of-27 passes for 256 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions as Kansas City defeated Los Angeles 38-28.

Rivers, who wasn’t too shabby himself during the game, spoke highly of Mahomes afterward. Rivers said Mahomes has a chance to be “really awesome.”

The Chiefs traded three draft picks to the Buffalo Bills to move up and select Mahomes No. 10 overall in last year’s NFL Draft. Andy Reid and the organization are obviously high on Mahomes, and on Sunday he gave them a glimpse of what he’s capable of.
