Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek addressed the collapsed trade of star edge rusher Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, expressing optimism that events unfolded as intended for the franchise.

The proposed deal, agreed upon in principle on March 6, would have sent the five-time Pro Bowl defensive end to Baltimore in exchange for two first-round draft picks. However, the Ravens withdrew days later, citing concerns over Crosby’s knee after he failed a required physical.

Crosby had undergone surgery for a torn meniscus but is expected to return healthy for the 2026 season.

Spytek reflected on the challenging process, noting extensive conversations with Crosby throughout the season and offseason.

“My relationship with Maxx since I’ve gotten here has been great,” Spytek said, via the Raiders’ official website. “We had a lot of conversations throughout the season, at the end of the season obviously, through the offseason and obviously we were presented with a difficult decision to make. Things have a way of going a certain way and working out the way they’re supposed to. We welcomed him like he never left, because he really never did.”

Spytek disputed the severity of medical concerns, stating the team anticipates Crosby back in August with many productive years ahead.

The Raiders have since pursued an “intelligently aggressive” free-agency strategy, adding talent including center Tyler Linderbaum and linebacker Nakobe Dean while retaining Crosby.

Spytek emphasized team continuity and excitement for the future as the organization moves forward with Crosby, despite persistent rumors of an impending trade.
