Kirk Cousins seemed to have one foot out the door in Washington during the 2017 season, and it may have rubbed some of the Redskins the wrong way.
Former Redskin and current team analyst Chris Cooley attended OTAs this week and passed along what some of Washington’s players supposedly had to say about new quarterback Alex Smith. Cooley indicated that the sentiment was something to the effect of “this is what an NFL quarterback acts like.”
What Cooley's hearing about Alex Smith from new #Redskins teammates: "A lot of the good things are like, Oh my God, this is what an NFL quarterback acts like."

Smith signed a four-year, $94 million deal with the Redskins this offseason, replacing their longtime QB Cousins, who signed with the Minnesota Vikings. Cousins, who is four years younger than Smith, had been with Washington since he was drafted in 2012, regularly finishing among the league’s passing leaders and making the Pro Bowl in 2016. But Cousins played out the last two seasons on the franchise tag, helping lead to the relationship’s deterioration.
Cousins’ father recently took a shot at the Redskins’ front office as well, so it’s hardly surprising that the bad blood here may go both ways.
