The Chicago Bears will likely at least entertain the idea of trading Justin Fields this offseason, and we now have a better idea of what the offers from rival teams might look like.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Courtney Cronin spoke with executives and talent evaluators around the NFL about the potential of Fields being traded. The consensus is that the Bears could probably get either a second- or third-round pick for Fields if they traded him before the draft.

If the Bears do trade Fields, that would likely signal that they have decided to draft Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick. However, Fowler and Cronin report that the potential return for the top pick could be even more enticing than trading Fields.

Several executives believe the Bears could get even more for this year’s No. 1 overall pick than they did when they traded the same selection to the Carolina Panthers last year. Chicago got two first-round picks, two second-round picks and wide receiver DJ Moore in that deal. The belief is that the Bears might be able to get two future first-round picks in addition to a top-5 pick in this year’s draft if they move back a few spots.

The question, of course, is whether the Bears believe Williams is a generational talent. If they feel that strongly about the former USC star, then they should trade Fields and keep the No. 1 pick.

The Bears have won four of their last five games. Fields was excellent in Chicago’s Week 17 win over the Atlanta Falcons, and fans went out of their way to show how they feel about the former Ohio State star. We will known soon enough if the Bears’ front office feels the same.
